SBIRT Grant Awarded to Drexel University’s Center for Family Intervention Science

Drexel’s Center for Family Intervention Science (CFIS) was awarded a 5-year SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral, and Treatment) grant beginning on October 1, 2021. CFIS will be partnering with mdlogix and three Philadelphia-based community organizations: Education Plus Health, Bethanna, and The Wedge.

The CFIS team will work with these partner organizations to implement the SBIRT framework into over 25 programs throughout Philadelphia. Over the course of 5 years, the grant team aims to screen nearly 28,000 adolescents (ages 12 to 18) who are being served in outpatient behavioral and health specialty care services as well as offer brief intervention and brief treatment to adolescents and their parents who were identified to need additional services. In addition to implementing the SBIRT framework, select project staff will be trained in motivational interviewing and attachment-based family therapy.

Screening and data collection will be done and hosted in the web-based, comprehensive software platform called bhworks. The individual EMR systems at each of the agencies will be integrated with bhworks.
